Before becoming an author I was a contributing editor at Forbes magazine, where I also worked as a staff writer and reporter for five years. I’ve since collaborated on four non-fiction business and career books as well as written my own, Be Happy at Work, which profiled 100 diverse women who loved their jobs, and explored the reasons why.
Over the years I have interviewed hundreds of CEOs and entrepreneurs in almost every industry. Currently, I am collaborating with Howard Schultz—the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Starbucks Coffee Company—on his second book, scheduled for publication by Rodale Books in Spring 2011.
Prior to my writing career I worked in business-to-business marketing and public relations. I have a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and a bachelor’s in journalism from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Since 1991, my writing has appeared in Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, Crain’s Chicago Business, Working Mother, CosmoGIRL!, Seventeen, Boston Magazine, PINK, For Me, The Wall Street Journal’s National Business Employment Weekly and Sales & Marketing Management.
Media appearances include the Weekend Today Show, Forbes on Fox, CNNfn, Good Day New York, Chicago Tonight, the Martha Stewart Living Channel and Fox News in the Morning.
I grew up near Chicago, lived in New York City for ten years and currently reside in Seattle.
